The CFP team, led by Principal Investigator Amanda Stevenson, has been awarded a Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Development (NICHD) R01 grant for a project entitled “Life Course Impacts of Reduced Access to Contraception.” In 2011, the state of Texas decreased its grant-based contraceptive funding program by two thirds and deprioritized dedicated family planning providers. These actions caused clinic closures, reduced access to the most effective methods, and were associated with increases in teen fertility. Using Census-held data sources and methods developed to analyze them during the team’s initial R01, this project will investigate the effects that this reduction had on outcomes such as high school and college graduation, poverty, and fertility.
