Kate Ellesworth

Director of Education Initiatives

Dr. Ellesworth was the Director of Education Initiatives for The Center for Resilience and Wellbeing in Schools from 2017-2021, where she was an leading faculty member in the development and implementation of our Resilience in Schools and Educators (RISE) program in schools across Colorado.

Before joining us in Colorado, she was the Executive Director of a network of public and private schools developed to serve under resourced neighborhoods across South Carolina and the founder of The Cooper School, a progressive elementary school in Charleston, SC. Kate has taught Kindergarten through Master’s level university courses and consulted with schools across the nation. Throughout, Kate has been passionate about creating responsive, relational communities that value rigorous, relevant curriculum and developing the voice, power and opportunity of ALL students.  

Dr. Ellesworth received her BA from Harvard University, her M.ED in Curriculum and Teaching from Columbia, Teachers College and her Ph.D in Instruction and Learning from the University of Pittsburgh.  Kate divides her time between her lifelong loves of the ocean and the mountains, enjoying her family and friends in the wide-open spaces, yoga studios and cafes of Colorado and South Carolina
