CCSA receives Wenner-Gren Grant

Scott Ortman

The Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research recently awarded CCSA a grant to support the workshop entitled “Climate Change, Environmental Degradation and Planning for Change: Initiative for Sustainable Development in Africa.” The grant covers travel expenses for 6 African scholars and 5 international consultants to attend the workshop, which will be held in Zanzibar, Tanzania. The workshop is being jointly organized with the Coalition for Archaeological Synthesis (CfAS) and will analyze the effects of ethnographic practices in Environmental and Social
Impact Assessments (ESIAs) on local, indigenous, and descendant (LID) communities. Outcomes are expected to have broad implications for the ethnographic method as it is employed in development projects and programs in East Africa and beyond.
