Meghan Hurley Backofen, LCSW, has been the Core Sexual Abuse Treatment Provider for Garfield County Department of Human Services since 2004. She is serving as the Regional Coordinator in Garfield County for The Community Collective for Trauma-Informed Evidence Based Prevention and Treatment Services, an initiative of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) housed at the Center for Resilience + Well-Being. Meghan’s role is to increase capacity in Garfield County to deliver trauma-informed, evidence-based prevention supports and services (TI-EBPs) for youth, families, and schools. These range from parenting programs and resources offered in the community to professional development and coaching for educators in schools, and training and consultation in TI-EBPs for mental health professionals.

For over twenty years, Meghan has specialized in providing evidenced based mental health assessments and treatment to child trauma survivors and their families. Meghan is a Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) provider as well as a TFCBT trained Consultant and Supervisor. She also provides families with Alternatives for Families Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AFCBT).

Meghan is a facilitator for the American Psychological Association’s Effective Providers Program and is also a trainer with the Office for Victims of Crime Technical Training Center (OVCTTC). Meghan has been an adjunct professor with the University of Denver since 2014. She teaches Trauma Informed Assessment and Intervention and Clinician Skills for Masters of Social Work students. Meghan is the developer of prevention programming, such as 10 Tips For Sexual Abuse Prevention, available in a podcast on itunes, and she is an author of Who’s the Boss of this Body, available on Amazon.

Meghan is a proud graduate of the International Affairs program at CU Boulder class of 1996 and received her MSW from the University of Chicago in 2002.
